Duc Thang Tran
Artist statement
Duc Thang Tran is a contemporary painter born in 1998 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where I am currently based. My work primarily focuses on landscape painting, depicting natural environments such as mountains, forests, rivers, and fields, often combined with human elements like boats to create balanced and coherent compositions. However, my art is to explore the relationship between natural scenery and human presence while conveying emotional depth through visual landscapes. When I paint, I usually mix media glory colors which match the reference chosen.
The primary materials used in my work include canvas, oil paints, acrylic paints, a palette, and image transfer techniques that support the development of my compositions. My artistic process involves both research and production, guided by five key visual elements: line, form, texture, color, and scale. These elements are carefully arranged to achieve compositional balance and emotional resonance, resulting in cohesive and visually engaging artworks. The primary goal of my art practice is to explore diverse ideas while creating meaningful visual experiences that evoke emotion and encourage viewers to reflect on their relationship with the natural environment.
My artwork represents a dialogue between human life and the natural world, emphasizing balance and coexistence. To myself , art serves as a way to communicate emotion and perspective through visual form. I want viewers to understand the thoughtful composition and use of visual elements behind each piece, so they can better appreciate the intention, emotional depth, and relationship between nature and human presence expressed in my work.
